Recently, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting was held convening renowned oncology professionals, clinicians/researchers, industry partners and advocacy organizations like the MRF. In conjunction with ASCO, we held the biannual MRF Breakthrough Consortium (MRFBC) meeting with the top melanoma researchers to discuss and report out on their research and clinical trials to identify potential collaborations ranging from mucosal melanoma research to the newly FDA approved TIL therapy.

At ASCO, the latest in melanoma research was presented across several oral/poster sessions as well as during the plenary session. Furthermore, the promising results of many melanoma clinical trials were presented which may lead to practice changing advances.

Click below to review our ASCO blog summary to learn more about key findings and updates presented during this impactful annual meeting.

In addition to reviewing the ASCO blog summary, we invite you to watch our animations about clinical trials and TIL therapy. For a personalized experience finding a clinical trial that is right for you, visit our clinical trial finder.

Donor Corner - In Recognition of Cancer Immunotherapy Month

Meet Giulia Newton

Giulia Newton

Giulia Newton's journey with metastatic desmoplastic melanoma underscores the transformative impact of immunotherapy. After years of enjoying an active life and managing skin health, Giulia's diagnosis at age 60 with a large lung mass was a profound shock. With a high tumor mutational burden and a PDL-1 biomarker of 95%, Giulia's oncologist recommended Ipilimumab and Nivolumab infusions. Following successful treatment and a complex surgical procedure, Giulia embarked on a challenging but hopeful recovery, supported by pulmonary rehabilitation. Her participation in advocacy and research initiatives, including MRF advocacy days and grant reviewing, reflects her commitment to advancing melanoma care. Giulia's story highlights the pivotal role of immunotherapy in her journey and her dedication to giving back to the community that supported her through this journey. Honoring Brain and Spine Metastasis this Month

Advocacy (2)

Although brain and spine metastases can occur in almost any type of cancer, in patients with advanced melanoma, the incidence of brain metastases is ~40%.  New therapies offer hope, but more research and clinical trials are needed.  This June, we joined other advocacy organizations in helping to raise awareness of brain and spine metastasis by using the hashtag #MetsGetsAwareness on social media and using the purple, gray, and white ribbon. Visit www.brainspinemetastasis.org to learn more, click on the link below for an informational webinar, or visit https://melanoma.org/research-science/scientific-initiatives-2/scientific-meetings/ for several publications stemming from the MRF Melanoma Brain Metastases Summits.
