The Feltz Fighters are BACK!!
My journey started in 2015 when I had a mole removed that wouldn’t stop bleeding. I was diagnosed with melanoma and had surgery to remove the cancer and test my lymph nodes for spread. My lymph nodes came back positive and I progressed with other tumors popping up throughout my leg. In December of 2015, I had surgery to remove all the lymph nodes in my left groin, leaving me with lymphedema and forever wearing a compression stocking on my left leg.
In 2016, I began immunotherapy for treatment. After one treatment failed to stop the melanoma from spreading, I tried another and had some severe side effects. But the treatment worked, and I had my first clean scan the summer of 2016!
That summer, my amazing friends signed us up to walk the Miles for Melanoma 5K in Boston as the Feltz Fighters. It was such an incredible experience to see the love and support - not only for myself, but for others going through the same battle. The amount of families fighting melanoma was inspiring to me. I knew I wasn’t alone.
Now that I have had almost 2 years of clean scans, the Feltz Fighters are back and better than ever! This year, we are going to RUN the Boston 5K. This is the first 5K for many of us and the first time I have run since my surgeries, so it’s a true team effort. I’m aim to run over that finish line and leave my melanoma in the dust!!
To support the Feltz Fighters, please donate to the Melanoma Research Foundation and the Boston 5K as they work to find a cure for this deadly disease.
