Please support my fundraising efforts for the Melanoma Research Foundation!
The cure for melanoma begins with me.
6 years ago, as we were preparing to send our first child off to college, my best friend/second mother took a turn for the worse in her battle with Melanoma. Pam, or Ella as my kids affectionately called her, fought courageously for almost a year, but passed away at the incredibly young age of 59. Ella was so many things to me and to my family. She began as my sister in law, later became my roommate (as I lived in her and my brother's home for a few years after high school), we graduated to being close confidantes...and ultimately she was like my second mother after our dear mother passed away. Ella was like a young Nana to my kids and left a profound hole in all of our lives when she left us. She fought hard to stay on top of her skin scans, having already lost a cousin to this disease at a young age, and she did recover from one terrible bout when she was in her early 30's - but this time, in 2017, as she was about to become a Nana for the first time, it had spread. We miss her each and every day...and pray that no other families have to suffer through the same suffering from this terrible cancer. On May 4th, my daughter and I will walk with Pamma's Pack to help raise money for this amazing cause.
Melanoma is the deadliest and fastest growing form of skin cancer and we all want a cure to be found soon. Miles for Melanoma is the way people come together to take action and help support this fight and the mission of the Melanoma Research Foundation.
Every step matters and every step counts. Significant advancement has been made in the past few years in improved detection, new drug treatments and better survival rates. This progress has been built on the breakthroughs made fighting other types of cancers, as well as the existing foundation of melanoma research.
There is more to be done and a long way to go, but the finish line is in sight. The energy, enthusiasm and encouragement from patients, survivors, families, friends, caregivers, and the medical community impacts many lives and many future.
Step up and donate to Miles for Melanoma today.
