Miles for Melanoma teams are the foundation of the event series. In 2016, more than 700 teams joined forces to walk, run and raise money to support melanoma research, education and advocacy. They are also our best fundraisers - 80% of 2016 fundraisers were members of a team!
Join a team or - even better - start your own
This is the most effective way to raise funds for the Melanoma Research Foundation. The key to making this type of fundraising event successful is having supporters like you joining your efforts with others. Think about it: as a fundraiser, you'll be asking your friends, family, and co-workers to support the Melanoma Research Foundation with their donations. We have no doubt that your network is large and dedicated, but more people on your team, all working toward the same goal, means even more opportunities for support. If you add your friends, family, and co-workers to your team, then your team suddenly has access to all of their friends, family, and coworkers. The network expands, and so do the opportunities. Not ready to become a team captain quite yet, but still looking for a that team camaraderie? Join our national team of solo runners and walkers, Melanoma Misfits. You'll receive encouragement from your team captain leading up to the event and you'll already have a community waiting for you when you show up to the event. Participating as a team is more fun! You'll show up on the day of the event as a group, you'll participate as a group and you'll have already been fundraising as a group. The pride and camaraderie you'll feel will make more of an impact on you and everyone else. Consider going to Booster to create your unique team shirt to add more fun!
Miles for Melanoma Champion Shirts
Team t-shirts are shirts that you buy for yourselves, but don’t forget that we also give our Miles For Melanoma Champion wicking/UPF 50 t-shirts to every individual who raises $100 or more. If you are raising money as a team, consider getting those donations placed to each member’s page so that each member can receive the Champion shirt. When you check in at the event, the volunteers will see if your Individual Fundraising Page has at least $100 (the volunteers do not have access to your team fundraising totals). If it does, the shirt is yours! If it does not, they will not have a shirt for you. Please plan accordingly.
More info about the Champion shirts:
- Your registration fee (if you paid one) will go towards your $100 goal
- You may make a donation on race day to complete the goal and get a shirt, sizes may be limited
- Team Captains who need help making sure each team member gets a shirt may contact us at email@example.com
- Plan ahead! Do your best to make sure each team member has $100 raised. We cannot split general team donations among individuals. For example, a $500 team donation from one donor cannot be split among 5 team members; it will only apply to the team total!
We encourage local businesses and healthcare providers to join Miles for Melanoma as corporate teams! Corporate teams support the event at the $1,000 level and receive a variety of benefits for their support, including free registrations, logo recognition on your designated team sign, and opportunities for corporate volunteerism. Finding Your Team on Event Day
Every team who registers at least 3 weeks prior to the event, has at least 2 members, and raises at least $100 will earn a team sign. Have your team members meet you there before and after the race. We've found that these signs are a great way to honor your loved one and show your support. We know that your team sign will become a treasured memento of the day. Note: your team sign will only include your team name, so please plan accordingly.
If your team raises $5,000 or more AND has 10 or more members, we’ll have a team tent for you to use as a meeting spot! Team members and funds raised must be at least 4 weeks prior to event day. So, build your team starting today. It's a great demonstration of power in numbers.
The team captains of the top five fundraising teams will receive special recognition at the event, so be sure to stick around after the run/walk to retrieve your prize! The top five team captains will be announced during the awards ceremony.
