Help honor Amy’s request.

Amy Leigh Hill passed away on Dec. 8, 2019, at the young age of 33, after a 14 month battle with Melanoma. She had just completed her coursework for her Ph. D. in Computational Social Science (with bachelor’s degrees in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and a master’s in Mechanical Engineering) while working full time at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

With a visit to the doctor for a sinus infection, she learned she had stage 4 melanoma. Over 14 months she endured chemo treatments, targeted therapy, immune therapy, radiation, cyber knife, blood transfusions, plural tubes, multiple visits to the ER and several hospital stays. Conducting most of the research herself, she desperately searched to find new drug combos or a clinical trial that would accept her. She traveled to 5 different states for consultations and evaluations, only to be turned down each time because of trial restrictions.

In a letter she wrote two weeks before her death, she asked anyone who heard her story to please consider donating to the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) or to AIM “to help the ones who will come next.” She knew that these organizations will lead the fight against this horrible disease and can be advocates for those diagnosed in the future.
