2024 Denver Miles for Melanoma

CURE OM

Each year Ocular Melanoma is diagnosed in 2,000 adults within the United States. This melanoma that develops in the eye is the most common eye cancer in adults and the second most common type of melanoma. Of the cases diagnosed each year approximately 50 percent of these cases spread to other parts of the body. When this occurs, it is most often fatal.

However, in recent years the amount of research and clinical trials for ocular melanoma, also known as uveal melanoma, are greatly increasing. This is due to people coming together to take action and help support this fight and the mission of the Melanoma Research Foundation through events like Miles for Melanoma.

Every step matters and every step counts. Significant advancement has been made in the past few years in improved detection, new drug treatments and better survival rates. This progress has been built on the breakthroughs made fighting other types of cancers, as well as the existing foundation of melanoma research.

There is more to be done and a long way to go, but the finish line is in sight. The energy, enthusiasm and encouragement from patients, survivors, families, friends, caregivers, and the medical community impacts many lives and many future.
