Steve's Army

Hello Steve's Army!

This is our FOURTH year organizing a team for the Melanoma Research Foundation's Miles for Melanoma 5K race in Washington, D.C. I'm excited that this will be our second year organizing an IN-PERSON team! Please consider joining Team Steve's Army or making a tax-deductible donation to help raise funds to fight this deadly cancer. Did you know just 10 years ago, the chances of long-term survival for those diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma was less than five percent? Because of research into finding a cure, melanoma is now treatable, and individuals, like me, are thriving and surviving. I would be honored if you would join our team.

My Story

In July 2019 I was diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma. The only indication I had that something was wrong was a swollen lymph node. Upon receiving the results of a biopsy, my worst fears were confirmed. The cancer was all over my body - in my liver, spleen, all throughout my bones, and over 100 palpable lesions under my skin. It was the worst case scenario. My doctors wanted to start me on immunotherapy, a treatment I'd never heard of. At that time, immunotherapy was only about five years old - infancy in the world of cancer. After four rounds of a double drug cocktail pumped into me via a chest port, my tumors started to shrink. Now, almost five years later, i'm not only surviving, but thriving. I wouldn't be here without science, medicine, positive energy, and prayers. And research. Immunotherapy is a treatment that continues to evolve in its efficacy and it's all thanks to research.

I was given a second chance at life - and I vowed to do everything I could to educate others about this deadly disease and fight with all I have to continue to find a cure.

The cure for melanoma begins with me.

Melanoma is the deadliest and fastest growing form of skin cancer and we all want a cure to be found soon. Miles for Melanoma is the way people come together to take action and help support this fight and the mission of the Melanoma Research Foundation.

Every step matters and every step counts. Significant advancement has been made in the past few years in improved detection, new drug treatments and better survival rates. This progress has been built on the breakthroughs made fighting other types of cancers, as well as the existing foundation of melanoma research.

There is more to be done and a long way to go, but the finish line is in sight. The energy, enthusiasm and encouragement from patients, survivors, families, friends, caregivers, and the medical community impacts many lives and many future.

Step up and donate to Miles for Melanoma today.
